CNPGClusterHighConnectionsWarning

Severity warning
Fires when More than 80% of the allowed connections are in use, for 5 minutes

What it means

More than 80% of the connections that PostgreSQL allows (max_connections) are in use on a database instance. The value of max_connections depends on the compute plan of the instance.

This is an early warning. The database still accepts new connections.

What happens if you do nothing

If the number of connections keeps growing, PostgreSQLConnectionsCritical fires. When all connections are in use, PostgreSQL refuses new connections.

What to do

Find out which applications hold the connections, and reduce them. Follow the steps in PostgreSQLConnectionsCritical.

A short peak (for example when many copies of an application start at the same time) can trigger this alert. If the alert goes away by itself, check that your connection pools are not larger than needed.
